Another day, another sporadic post. It’s interesting being in this new and evolving situation, but not really have any means to share said experience with others. Haha, and by interesting I mean annoying and frustrating. It shouldn’t be too much longer until my internet set up arrives, but meanwhile thanks for bearing with me, and don’t lose hope!

I’m in Tokyo now, and a fun little internet cafe place that I would visit sometimes when I was at Rikkyo. It’s super sweet in that it’s not just an internet place, but more like an all in one entertainment facility. I can watch movies, place video games, read manga, and it has unlimited drinks!! Who could ask for anything more??

As the title of the post suggests, I’ve actually had a lot of free time on my hands. Shortly after arriving here in Kuki I was placed on mandatory vacation time, and so have been figuring out various ways to occupy my time. I’ve been cleaning my apartment (a pretty hefty task I might add), seeing long lost friends, exploring the city, and of course coming back to that great mecha of Japan, Tokyo.

It’s interesting being back, especially in finding that really not much has changed since last I was here. There are a couple stores and restaurants that have closed and been replaced, but for the most part it’s exactly the same. I guess that’s to be expected, after all it’s only been three years since I was last here, but I think on some level I was kinda expecting more changes. Or more appropriately, I was expecting the changes that I have felt in my own life to be matched by changes in Tokyo. Funny the expectations we set up for ourselves sometimes.

I won’t actually be starting work until sometime next week, though in the meantime I have (yet another) orientation on friday and monday that I’ll attend. Hopefully I’ll be able to comment on my experiences of actually starting work from the comfort of my home, but the Japanese system is notoriously slow, so we’ll have to see.

Well, my time’s just about up here, but thanks for reading and taking a glance at my life in Japan thus far. I’ll try to update again as soon as I can, but meanwhile keep leaving comments, reading them is always a great way to brighten my day!!!

Until then

an update on progress

Hello!

After some harrowing adventures, I’m happy to say that I have finally arrived in Kuki city, where I’ll be spending the next one, two, or three years depending on how things go. My apartment is quite nice, especially in comparision with my last place, and the people who I’ll be working with are very nice and have helped me out immensely already, and I think it’ll be a good working environment (I’ve also already met with a couple of the teachers who I’ll be working with at the junior high school where I’ll be starting).

Internet though is the big problem right now, and it could take up to two weeks to get it all hooked up and working (I’m writing this from one of the other ALT’s apartment). Once it is I’ll be able to update much more frequently, and with images and hopefully sound as well. Until then, It’s going to have to be more brief messages as I need to get back to my place pretty soon (it’s already 7:00pm and I haven’t had dinner yet…and it’s already dark out for that matter….)

Thank you for all your prayers and thoughts though, and please keep checking back as I’ll be updating as much as possible in the meantime.

Tomorrow’s the weekend, hooray for that!!
